PNB : RBI IMPOSES RS 8.6 L PENALTY FOR CURRENCY CHEST NON-COMPLIANCE

• RBI imposed four monetary penalties on the bank across 09.09.2026 and 11.09.2026, totalling ~₹8.6 L • Individual penalties: ₹2.92 L, ₹1.34 L, ₹1.35 L and ₹3.00 L (all below ₹1 Cr) • Violation cited: non-compliance with operational guidelines of currency chests as per RBI master directions • Penalty amounts debited directly from the bank's account with RBI; impact only to the extent of the penalty • Bank says it is strengthening reporting systems for timely identification of such deductions
