BAT to Cut 9,000 Jobs Worldwide as Cigarette Demand Continues to Decline

British American Tobacco (BAT) will eliminate or outsource around 9,000 jobs, nearly 20% of its global workforce, as part of a restructuring to reduce costs and accelerate its shift toward smoke-free products. The overhaul includes 5,500 job cuts and 3,500 outsourced roles, targeting £600 million in annual savings by 2028. BAT expects global cigarette industry volumes to decline about 2.5% this year and is increasingly focusing on products such as Vuse vapes and Velo nicotine pouches.
