Tata Sons Chairman Defends Long-Term Bets, Says India’s Chip Ambitions Matter More Than Short-Term Returns

Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran defended the group’s long-term investments in semiconductors and advanced manufacturing, saying these projects should not be judged solely on returns over the next two to three years. Speaking at Bloomberg’s New Economy Forum, he stressed that chips are essential for India’s future. The Tata Group has committed around $120 billion towards its next growth phase. However, Chandrasekaran emphasised financial discipline, cautioning against reckless investments while prioritising strategic growth and technological self-reliance.
