Mutual Funds Halt Fresh Investments in Gold FoFs From October 16; Gold ETFs Remain Available for Trading

Several mutual fund houses have suspended fresh investments in Gold Exchange-Traded Fund Fund of Funds (Gold ETF FoFs) from October 16, 2026, ahead of the festive season. The restrictions cover new lump-sum investments and new SIP registrations in affected schemes, with certain fund houses also restricting top-ups and switch-ins. Existing registered SIP instalments and redemptions remain permitted, subject to scheme-specific notices. The restrictions apply to Gold FoFs, not to Gold ETFs themselves. Investors can continue buying and selling Gold ETFs on stock exchanges through their demat accounts. The reason for the restrictions has not been officially confirmed.
