Microsoft Offers Buyouts to 60,000 Workers Worldwide Amid AI Spending Boom

Microsoft is offering voluntary buyouts to approximately 60,000 employees across the US, Canada, India and the UK as it restructures operations and redirects resources towards artificial intelligence, according to Bloomberg. The company had around 223,000 employees globally as of June. Data-centre teams are reportedly excluded from the offer, reflecting Microsoft’s focus on protecting critical AI infrastructure investments. Eligible employees will receive severance-style benefits, as the tech giant seeks to control workforce costs while expanding its AI capabilities.
