CCS Clears ₹40,000 Crore Warship Deal for Indian Navy; GRSE, Goa Shipyard to Build 8 Corvettes

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has approved a ₹40,000-crore project to build eight next-generation corvettes for the Indian Navy. Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) will construct five warships, while Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) will build three. Based on an indigenous Navy design, the vessels will support surveillance, coastal defence and anti-submarine warfare. The first warship is expected by 2030. The project is expected to strengthen India’s maritime capabilities and boost domestic defence manufacturing.
